The BirdLife Cyprus 2024 calendar is dedicated to the raptors of Cyprus.
Amongst them is the noisy Common Kestrel Falcotinnunculus, the powerful Peregrine Falcon Falcoperegrinus, the solitary Common Buzzard Buteobuteo, the elegant Eleonora’s Falcon Falcoeleonorae and the majestic Griffon Vulture Gypsfulvus.
But these are not all; the Cyprus sky, from one end of the island to the other, is home to a rich variety of raptors, adorning coastal cliffs, mountains, forests, wetlands, scrub and farmland.
We must not forget however that raptors are crucial in keeping nature balanced. They control the number of prey and stop the spread of disease by consuming dead animals . They act as ‘nature’s caretakers’, from the top of the food chain.
